Implementing the ProKoulu and ProVaka frameworks are processes that last many years. The models become integrated into the everyday work of the educational unit. The Pro-frameworks support the development of a positive ethos within the unit. They emphasise the teaching and guidance of social skills in supporting wanted behaviours. In the blog posts linked on this page, you can read more about experiences of ProKoulu and ProVaka in the city of Vantaa.
The Pro-frameworks were initially implemented in Vantaa in the autumn of 2022. Professionals within Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) identified a need for methods through which children’s emotional and social skills could be strengthened and with which children with neuropsychiatric symptomatologies could be supported. Vantaa was the first large city that began realising the Pro-frameworks. They have been implemented in stages in all ECEC and comprehensive education.
At the moment ProVaka and its Swedish-language equivalent ProSmå are in use in all of Vantaa city’s ECEC. ProKoulu has been rolled out in about 70 per cent of Finnish-speaking schools and in all Swedish-speaking ones. The frameworks are also in use in the city’s English-speaking educational units.
